Anterior Open Bite occurs when there is no vertical overlap between upper and lower front teeth or simply
when the front teeth do not meet when the back teeth are already in contact.
In children, this can be caused by habits (thumb sucking, tongue thrusting) or mouth breathing/nasal obstruction.
More severe anterior open bite is due to disproportionate vertical jaw growth.
Early intervention and removal of the causes of anterior open bite in children is recommended as it can affect
- Facial appearance
- Jaw Growth and Dental Development
- Speech ie. lisping
- Function ie. cutting up food
